Readers’ Gallery: John Eaton’s 1/32 Hobbycraft Nieuport 17

Check out John Eaton’s wonderful Nieuport 17. Great work on this one John!

Lately I have been working on this, a 1/32 kit. It is a pretty basic kit and the rigging is fairly simple. As is usual with Hobbycraft, instructions and locations of parts are at best approximate. I found a resin interior set that went together pretty well and that helped out the cockpit area. I added some ribbing to the cowl of the example I am building, Billy Bishop’s airplane. I also added a tube like gun sight made from stretched sprue.

I replaced the kit intake tubes with aluminum tubing. The rigging is E-Z Line. The kit decals were useable but a bit translucent in some spots, mostly white. I mounted the engine on a brass tube so I could position it a bit more forward in the cowl. For a biplane this one is on the simpler end of the spectrum but due to approximate fits on the cabanes and landing gear it has its interesting areas. It does look pretty well aligned to my eye. Not sure how I managed that but I will accept the result.
