Here’s my model of the first XB-70, called Air Vehicle 1. It’s the AMT 1/72 kit, and what you may have heard about fit and such is true. But it’s such a cool looking airplane and I just had to have one built up.
A few extras were used on it – some resin wheels I got on ebay that didn’t have those badly flattened tires the kit had, and an Extratech photoetch set, only some of which was used. And my friend Greg Drawbaugh was nice enough to print up some extra detail decals I drew on the computer. The intakes were opened up, the cockpit windows detailed, some extra bits were added to the wheel wells and exhaust area. The elevons were also drooped to make things more interesting. It took about a year off and on, but I enjoyed it. Hope you like the photos.
