Agape forum member Wayne Dipplod (Eagle334) took a while to finish this Skyray, but it ended up looking great! Thanks for sharing this Wayne. I’ve always thought this was a cool looking airplane.
This is a recent completion of mine. This kit was pulled off the shelf of shame, I honestly think it was started last century! It is the Tamiya 1/48th F4D-1 (F-6A). It sat for a long time because I was not at all happy with the white paint on it, I just could not get a smooth finish no matter what.
The other day I was moving it to get to something else and was looking at it and thought about just trying to sand the paint smooth, it had enough on it, that’s for sure. After some work with polishing pads I got the finish to something decent enough to continue.
Unfortunately over the years I had managed to break all the gear struts off. They are back on and look OK I guess. This model will never win anything and it looks good sitting on the shelf. Considering all it’s been through making it to the shelf is a victory. I decided to go with the Navy TPS markings from Cutting Edge because they are different and I think they look pretty cool. The Tamiya decals gave me some trouble, especially the intake warnings, but we reached a compromise.
I did a light gray wash to the panel lines, but many are not visible because there was just so much paint in them from trying to get it white, the wash just would not stay in there. Hope you guys like it.
