Readers’ Gallery: John Neill’s sculpture “The Guardian”

John Neill shares this fabulous work he did on a Jewish warrior from II Samuel. Great work John!

“Benaiah chased a lion down into a pit. Then, despite the snow and slippery ground, he caught the lion and killed it.” II Samuel 23:20

Began work on a new sculpture based on a sermon series, Chase the Lion, by my Pastor Brain Ross taken from a book by his friend Mark Batterson, “In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day“.

The basic story line is about Benaiah, one of King David of Israel’s Mighty Men – David’s Captain of his Bodyguard – who is seen in the Torah/Old Testament book of II Samuel.

My hope was to capture the Israelite Warrior of the 1,000 BC era – Warrior, Chaser of lion, King’s Guardian.
