Happy 4th of July! This is the day America celebrates freedom. Freedom from so many things, and freedom of so many things. May we never take them for granted.
I had a reminder of this recently, emailing a new friend. He is traveling to work in a part of the world where freedom is suppressed, where rights are taken away. The very act of visiting this site may place him in danger.
Of course, Jesus told us these things would happen.
So on this day that we celebrate freedom, let us not forget where freedom comes from. We are free thanks to God. His blessing grants freedom. Evil causes bondage. It is only through God’s grace and by His Hand we, as a nation, can experience freedom from bondage to the evils of this world.
And as individuals, we can only experience freedom through the grace and mercy of Jesus, through His death, burial and resurrection.
Celebrate freedom, as a nation, a shining beacon for all nations and freedom loving people. And celebrate as individuals, through the freedom from sin in Jesus Christ. If you’ve not already done so by asking Jesus to be the Lord and Saviour of your life, I invite you to do so today. What better day to truly be free?
Never forget- freedom only flows from the hand, the word and the throne of God. All other is bondage.
