IPMS/USA Birmingaham Alabama Presents: The Phabulous Phantom Turns Phifty!

sml_tmdesertrecce.jpgOn Saturday April 5, 2008 the IPMS/USA Birmingham, Alabama contest theme will honor the fiftieth anniversary of the McDonnell F-4 Phantom. The Phabulous Phantom has enjoyed fifty years of continuous service with many air forces around the world, not to mention its storied history with the United States Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps.

This year’s contest theme will celebrate the Phantom in all of its glory. There will be four primary theme awards, each honoring the Phantom. ‘Best of Awards’ will honor the United Stated Air Force, the United States Navy and Marine Corps, and all the foreign operators of the Phantom. The fourth special award will celebrate the ‘Best’ Phantom of the three special award winners.

The three service plaques will each feature three 1/48 Phantom tails. For the USAF, Navy/Marine plaques, schemes have been picked to chronicle the introduction, mid-life, and twilight of the Phantoms career. The foreign operated plaque will feature tail schemes from British, Japanese, and Israeli Phantoms.

The ‘Best Phantom Award’ will be truly stunning, and is graciously being donated by the F-4 Phantom Society. The ‘Best Phantom Award’ will be a framed Tim McGovern print of a Birmingham RF-4C over Iraq entitled ‘Desert Recce.’
