All the presents are nice. The trees and decorations are beautiful and fun to look at. The food is delicious and filling. The specials on TV are nostalgic and entertaining. Nothing wrong with any of them.
Unless they distract from one thing.
Christmas celebrates the birth of our Saviour, Jesus. Through God’s gift of Jesus’ birth life, and eventual death and resurrection, we can have eternal salvation. His birth, in a manger so many years ago, is the single most important event in human history. With it began a chain of events that led to the cross. With that birth in a stable, God showed once and for all how much He loves us.
So please enjoy all of the fun and festivities of the season. It’s a festive, happy, joyful time, as it should be. But don’t lose sight of the fact that despite all of the rhetoric and news and political correctness and commercialism, it all started when God chose to live among us, starting on a cold Bethlehem night, in a stable, lying in a manger.
That’s what it’s all about. Truly, Jesus is the reason for the season.
Merry Christmas!
